Star Trek: The Next Generation (often abbreviated to TNG) is the second live-action Star Trek TV series created by Gene Roddenberry as part of the Star Trek franchise. Set about 71 years after the original (Kirk, Spock, McKoy...) Star Trek in the 24th century, , the series featured a new crew and a new starship Enterprise. Premiere began on September 28, 1987 with the two-hour pilot "Encounter at Farpoint". May 23, 1994 with the finale "All Good Things..." ended 178 episodes long saga spread over seven seasons, concluding longest chapter than any other Star Trek series.
TNG cast after the end of the series continued the adventures with four of the Star Trek motion pictures. Star Trek Generations was first in a row, being final conclusion of first six motion pictures with The Original Series cast. It included crossover appearance of William Shatner, James Doohan, and Walter Koenig. Following movie: First Contact, after two years of pause, featured pure TNG cast and introduced new USS Enterprise-E engaging the Borg. Next sequel: Insurrection (1998) carries most resemblance to series with its crew characterization. Last movie: Nemesis (2002) brought definite conclusion to adventures of TNG crew.
Main casts: Patrick Stewart (Captain Pickard), Jonathan Frakes (Comander Ryker), Brent Spiner (Data), LeVar Burton(Gordy), Marina Sirtis(Troy), Michael Dorn(Worf), Gates McFadden(Dr. Crusher), Denise Crosby, Wil Wheaton....
Today, Star Trek DVD: The Next Generation is entirely available on DVD. It takes 49 disc hold complete seven seasons, with individual TNG seasons separately available. All seven seasons last 8085 minutes and contain valuable additional materials. Most people agree that most economic option is to buy entire box with all seven Next Generation seasons. It is to be expected that quantity of DVDs goes down and quality goes up after Star Trek: The Next Generation lands on Blu ray. It is for sure planned, but release date is yet to be published.
TNG Motion Pictures: available as single DVDs and boxed collections, they are available as TNG Motion Picture Collection [Blu-ray] too. Great about it is that all materials are remastered with improvements in field of CGI effects. Fun is with switching on the fly between old and new effects. As usual, entire collection is more affordable than individual discs. Boxed collection holds 5 discs with 522 minutes of film material and additional stuff.

Here you can get Star Trek DVDs/Blu ray remastered collections!
Lets admit it, entropy makes thing worsen over time. Same is with DVDs we collected over time. Star Trek DVD collection in our cupboard or shelve is no exception to the rule.
They get scratched, dusted, someone might sit on them and get them broken... Whatever the reason is, we have to replace them.
Good news is, Star Trek DVDs are getting new life. In form of Blu-ray media. Paramount makes great work with not only transferring them to Blu-ray, they get full remastering and rework of special effects.
This is the main reason that release pace is relatively slow, however, it makes easier to make complete list of what is available for purchase. Following list gives Amazon statistics on the collections and it's pretty indicative most of us is seeking to retain good old crew for years to come with us.
Good news is that remastering extends to classic DVD media as well, so, even if you don't have Blu ray yet, you can still enjoy higher quality material, and most people agree that Paramount made great job doing this.
